Field metallurgical replication
Field metallurgical replication

There are several situations where taking a metallic sample directly from the structure or component is not desirable or possible at all. Metallographic surface replication is a well-established method to study the metallurgical condition of components in the field. An area to be studied is prepared by sequentially grinding, polishing and etching by the appropriate etching solution. A special replication film is then attached on the prepared surface and an imprint of the surface is produced. This imprint is taken for examination on the microscope.

The process is performed according to ISO 3057 and ASTM E1351. It is possible to perform the replica production and assessment in the field to speed up the decision-making process for your Organization.
